Stiles Office Equipment was founded by Mr. Paul Stiles in 1955.  The business was located at 404 South Illinois Avenue; it's telephone number was 517-L.  Stiles was an authorized sales and service agency for Remington Rand Business Machines.  In 1963, the company was purchased from the estate of Mr. Stiles by David L. Sanders who became owner and president.  At this time, there was a staff of three.

In the late 60's, Stiles moved from South Illinois Avenue to the 800 block of East Main.  By this time, the products marketed by Stiles had grown from typewriters and adding machines to include calculators, spirit duplicators, mimographs copiers, and office supplies.  Stiles' reputation grew to one of a dedicated company, representing quality products marketed by professional salespeople, and maintained by factory trained technicians with a strong management focus on client satisfaction.  Stiles added three new additional employees for a total staff of six.

Stiles was incorporated in 1970.  In the early 70's, Stiles moved into a larger location at 701 East Main Street.  The additional space allowed them to expand their inventory of office supplies and they began displaying office furniture and created an art/drafting department.  In the late 70's a 2000 square foot warehouse facility was added to the building.  As a result, Stiles staff increased to a total of 20.

In 1985, Stiles expanded into a second facility at 601 Industrial Park.  The new facility provided space for management, administrative and sales offices along with a nice warehouse.  This is the location where our entire organization resides today.  This larger warehouse facility allowed a more efficient product distribution to our clients.  Then, as today, all delivery orders were made on Stiles trucks, by Stiles employees, delivered where, when, and how the client desired.

In 1996, the Sanders family decided that in the best interest of our clients and employees that they needed to align themselves with a worldwide provider of office products.  In October of 1996, Stiles Office Equipment, Inc. sold to Corporate Express, one of the largest providers of office products in the world.  Corporate Express retained all management and employees.

Ironically, three years later, the Sanders family bought the business back from Corporate Express for exactly the same reasons they had sold the business...their clients, their employees and themselves.  It appeared that the Southern Illinois market did not fit the business model of a worldwide provided.

Today's owners of Stiles are: Chairman-David L. Sanders, President-Mark S. Sanders, Vice President-Lee Sanders, and Secretary Treasurer-Becky Phillips.

Throughout the years many things have changed.  Many of the individuals that work at Stiles today can remember the first mechanical calculator, the first electrostatic copier, the first electronic calculator, the first personal computers, which have all evolved into today's digital workplace.  The one thing that has never changed throughout the years and will never change is our desire to do business with you in a most professional manner.  We are proud of and would like to thank all of our past and present employees for their part in making our organization what it is today.  Our biggest thanks goes to individuals like yourself in the business and professional communities in Southern Illinois that have made the existence and growth of this organization possible.  Today, Stiles Office Solutions, Inc. employs 33 individuals from communities throughout Southern Illinois.
